Our support group meets once a week in person and includes local parents with newborns through three year olds. “Education begins at birth,” Dr. Montessori often said. As adults, however, we do not “teach” children; they teach themselves, and children learn from direct contact with the environment.

 

By using all of their senses and through movement, the child naturally absorbs what is in the environment. Reading The Absorbent Mind will guide you to understand why Maria Montessori coined this phrase to describe the most crucial stage in a child's development. Book discussions occur weekly in our parent-child class.

 

Because a child naturally learns from their environment, the home, the toys, and materials should be of the very best quality to call forth respect and care from the child to the environment, and an appreciation of beauty for what nature provides. The home should be free from clutter, and the adults who interact with the child should promote a calm and peaceful presence. This takes practice.

 

As a parent or caregiver, you know your family best. There is a wide variety of educational choices you can make, and most parents make the best choices they can with the resources they have. The Montessori Method, however, offers the most researched and developmentally appropriate program for children from the very moment a child is born.

In our weekly support group, learn about inexpensive and creative ways to support your child's development from birth by finding activities that incorporate movement and engage their senses in all different price ranges. You'll have access to our library of resources, our favorite reads, and our Parent Community Chat Group to share photos and reach out with questions throughout the week.

 

Within the community, you'll make friends who will grow with you and your child as we support each other through this important but often trying time.
